Phasmophobia Xbox Truck Camera Crash: Your TV Wants Blood

If Phasmophobia crashes when you check the video-camera monitor in the truck on Xbox, switch the in-game graphics mode from Balanced to Performance. Several Xbox Series X players say this reduced or stopped their crashes. Others still have problems, so this is a community workaround, not an official fix.

The reports go back months and continued into October 2026. Players describe freezing, black screens and complete crashes when accessing camera footage, sometimes losing an investigation's progress. Which is a fairly impressive performance from a vehicle that's supposed to be your safe haven. You've survived a ghost that wants to rearrange your internal organs, escaped to the truck, and now you're being taken out by a television. At least the ghost occasionally gives you a warning.

Got the truck working again? Excellent. Now Phasmophobia's Crimson Eye event has turned eight maps into Blood Moon investigations, because apparently ordinary ghosts weren't meeting their murder quotas. See what you're walking into before you volunteer for another haunting.

How to try the Performance mode workaround

Open Phasmophobia's settings, find the graphics mode currently set to Balanced, change it to Performance, and apply the setting. This is an in-game option, so there's no need to go rummaging through the Xbox dashboard. Then see whether the truck monitor behaves during your next investigation.

The suggestion isn't based on a single comment from somebody whose cousin once repaired a printer. Xbox Series X players were discussing it in March, and October reports include people saying it still helps. But nobody has established how often it works, or why. Blaming memory, rendering or the position of Jupiter might sound authoritative, but there's no confirmed technical diagnosis for these particular crashes. Evidence for the workaround is also stronger on Series X than Series S.

What if the game still crashes?

In multiplayer, ask an unaffected teammate to handle the truck cameras. It's an awkward compromise, but some affected players have already taken to avoiding the monitor. If the crash is consistently triggered by looking at the feed, keeping that job with someone who can use it may save the session.

Solo players don't have that luxury. You can avoid the monitor when practical, but the video feed matters for checking evidence such as Ghost Orbs. Without it, you may be missing information rather than confirming that no orbs are present. Apparently the investigation has developed a new mechanic: deliberately refusing to investigate, in case the surveillance equipment decides to become the most lethal entity on the map.

You can also check for game and console updates, fully close and restart Phasmophobia, or reboot your Xbox. These are ordinary troubleshooting steps, not proven truck-camera fixes. Reinstalling everything or performing an elaborate console exorcism has no established benefit for this specific problem.

If crashes continue, use Kinetic Games' support form. Include your Xbox model, graphics mode, map, solo or multiplayer status, what you were doing immediately before the crash, and how many cameras were placed if you know. Specific reports are more useful than simply declaring the truck possessed, however persuasive that diagnosis may feel.

Tired of investigating haunted buildings for a living? Midnight Heist offers a more respectable career: robbing them instead. Unfortunately, the supernatural hasn't received your resignation letter. Find out whether ghost-infested burglary is actually worth the trouble.

Is there an official fix?

Not a confirmed comprehensive one as of October 12, 2026. Kinetic Games acknowledged common PS5 and Xbox Series X/S crashes in its September 10 patch notes, but the October 7 update (0.19.1.0) neither announces a truck-camera fix nor specifically lists this fault among its known issues.

The developer did fix a narrower Xbox CCTV problem in August 2025 involving cameras in Grafton Farmhouse and a player disconnect. That doesn't prove today's reports share the same cause. A Unity 6 transition is planned for November, but there's no specific promise that it will resolve these crashes either.

For now, try Performance mode first. If it fails, work around the monitor when possible and report the fault. Ghosts are supposed to be the dangerous part of Phasmophobia. Nobody should have to approach a security monitor like it's a cursed Victorian wardrobe.

Had enough of a CCTV monitor behaving like the final boss? CRIMENET's horror section has plenty of fresh nightmares waiting for you. Some even have the decency to murder you without crashing the entire fucking game.

Phasmophobia Xbox Crashes FAQ

Why does Phasmophobia crash when I check truck cameras on Xbox?

Some Xbox players experience freezing, black screens or complete crashes when accessing the truck's video-camera monitor. The exact technical cause hasn't been confirmed.

How do I stop Phasmophobia crashing on Xbox Series X?

Try changing the in-game graphics mode from Balanced to Performance. Several players report fewer or no crashes after switching, although it doesn't work for everyone.

Does the workaround work on Xbox Series S?

It might, but most of the supporting player reports concern Xbox Series X. There isn't enough evidence to confirm how effective it is on Series S.

What should I do if Performance mode doesn't help?

Try restarting the game, checking for updates and avoiding the affected monitor when possible. In multiplayer, an unaffected teammate can handle the cameras. You can also report persistent crashes to Kinetic Games.

Has the Phasmophobia Xbox camera crash been fixed?

No comprehensive fix has been confirmed as of October 12, 2026. The October 7 update didn't announce a specific truck-camera fix, and November's planned Unity 6 transition isn't guaranteed to resolve it.

About the Editor

I'm Niels Gys, founder and editor of CRIMENET GAZETTE. I write about crime, heist, villain, and horror games because somebody has to separate genuine criminal masterpieces from games that couldn't organize a successful mugging.

Outside the website, I'm the frontman of JETBLACK SMILE, a Belgian rock 'n' roll band that sounds like bad decisions played through loud guitars. Turns out writing about chaos, criminals, and morally questionable life choices isn't all that different from writing songs.

I started CRIMENET because too much gaming coverage feels afraid to have an opinion. Reviews become press releases, every game is "solid," and somehow everyone leaves happy except the reader.

Not here.

CRIMENET covers crime, heist, villain and horror games, with GTA Online as one of our main ongoing beats. Not the heroic kind. The kind where you rob banks, build empires, betray your crew, or become the monster everyone else is trying to survive.

I don't do review scores. The internet already has enough people arguing whether a game deserves a 72 instead of a 71, like they're negotiating a hostage release over a single percentage point. I'd rather tell you what the game actually feels like to play and whether it's worth your time.

Every article is built on research, evidence, and an unhealthy intolerance for mediocre game design.

Strong opinions are welcome. Invented facts are not.

Think less "trusted reviewer."
