HITMAN PS5 Offline Project: Agent 47 Targets the Server

An independent developer has published a project that reportedly lets HITMAN World of Assassination run its online-dependent progression systems on PS5 without connecting to IO Interactive’s official servers. According to the developer, mission completion, scoring, XP, mastery and several menus work through a locally hosted replacement backend. Publicly discussed on October 15, 2026, it’s promising preservation work, but there’s an enormous catch: you need a compatible jailbroken PS5, specific game versions and your own backend. Ordinary PlayStation owners cannot simply install it, and CRIMENET has not independently reproduced its functionality.

Agent 47 can murder a billionaire with a poisoned canapé, but apparently needs permission from a server to receive a promotion. Is HITMAN still worth playing despite this nonsense? Read our full HITMAN World of Assassination review.
Professional murder apparently requires administrative approval
HITMAN lets you infiltrate an extravagant location, borrow somebody’s uniform without asking, study patrol routes and arrange for a target to suffer a fatal encounter with the local infrastructure. You can spend half an hour plotting an assassination that looks like an accident, escape dressed as a gardener and disappear without anyone noticing. It's magnificent. Yet mastery levels, unlocks, challenges and Freelancer progression depend on online infrastructure. IOI’s cross-progression documentation confirms that progression data is stored online.
So Agent 47 can infiltrate a fortified compound, kill a billionaire and vanish, but apparently cannot be trusted to remember that he did it. Somewhere, presumably, Patricia from Human Resources must approve the assassination paperwork. Target eliminated? Excellent. Witnesses? None. Unfortunately, Patricia’s computer has stopped responding, so the murder cannot be credited towards his professional development. This was already one of our complaints in our HITMAN World of Assassination review.
The sandbox is brilliant; tying so much of its long-term progress to infrastructure the player doesn’t control is considerably less brilliant.

Somebody is building Agent 47 another server
Independent developer theghostonline has published the Hitman-PS5 project on GitHub. It combines a console-side payload with a modified backend derived from Peacock, an established server-replacement project for supported PC installations. This PS5 version attempts to provide similar functionality on Sony’s console. The developer reports access to major menus, including Story, Destinations, Career and Freelancer, alongside mission planning, mission completion, persistent scores, XP and mastery.
That is considerably more meaningful than getting a main menu to load. HITMAN’s long-term appeal comes from mastering locations, unlocking equipment and gradually assembling an extraordinary collection of ways to ruin somebody’s afternoon. If those accomplishments can be recorded on infrastructure you control, much of that career could survive independently of IOI’s official servers. There’s a technical distinction here: offline from IOI does not mean serverless. The project still requires server software; it just runs locally. Agent 47 hasn’t abolished administration. He has merely fired Patricia and appointed himself head of personnel.
Freelancer works? That needs a larger asterisk
Freelancer is the most interesting part because its campaigns involve equipment management and consequences stretching across multiple missions. Preserving a single mission result is useful; preserving a long-running Freelancer campaign would be a substantially bigger achievement. The developer reports access to Freelancer, but entering the menu doesn't establish that inventory, campaign progression, failure states and everything else work reliably from beginning to end. Some features remain unfinished, and independent verification is still missing.
There are also unanswered questions about trophy support and whether existing progression on official IOI servers can be migrated to the replacement backend. That distinction matters if you’ve invested hundreds of hours in unlocks. Saving the progression system is lovely, but if your own career has to start again, it’s the equivalent of rescuing the office building while leaving every employee’s records in the fire.
As for compatibility, the developer identifies testing on PS5 firmware 13.60 with particular game versions and a locally operated backend. That describes a reported test configuration, not universal support. The project is unofficial, needs a compatible jailbroken console and is not a practical fix for ordinary retail PS5 owners. Anyone technically equipped to investigate should consult the repository’s requirements, rather than assuming their console will work.
Nobody is claiming IOI’s servers are about to shut down. But the project exposes how much of a predominantly single-player game could become difficult to preserve if those services ever disappear. It isn’t a proven, complete solution yet, and the developer’s results need independent reproduction. Still, it’s impressive that someone is trying to keep Agent 47’s career alive on infrastructure players can operate themselves. He has spent years finding ways around seemingly impenetrable security. Apparently, his next target is the login server.

Agent 47 may be unemployed if his servers disappear, but fortunately the villain industry is hiring. Psychopaths, criminal masterminds and monsters with absolutely no interest in saving humanity. HITMAN PS5 Offline Preservation FAQ
Can you play HITMAN World of Assassination offline on PS5?
The game offers limited offline functionality, but important progression features normally require IO Interactive's servers. An unofficial preservation project aims to restore those features through a locally hosted replacement backend.
Does the HITMAN PS5 preservation project work on a normal PS5?
No. It requires a compatible jailbroken PS5, specific game versions and a locally hosted backend. The developer reports testing on firmware 13.60.
Does Freelancer work without IOI's servers?
The developer reports that the Freelancer menu is accessible. However, complete campaign functionality, inventory persistence and failure handling have not been independently verified.
Will you keep your existing HITMAN progression and unlocks?
That's currently unknown. The project reportedly supports persistent local XP, scores and mastery, but transferring existing progression from IOI's official servers has not been confirmed.
Is the HITMAN PS5 offline project official?
No. It's an independent, unofficial project based on modified Peacock server-replacement technology. You can find it on GitHub.
