PAYDAY 3 October Update: Rob a Bank Backwards, Kidnap a Judge and Bring Two Shotguns

PAYDAY 3's October 2026 update brings a loud-only nighttime version of Gold & Sharke, new Heist Challenges, dual-wielded revolvers and shotguns, and the removal of mandatory Nebula registration. The Western-themed Guns Blazin' Crimebond arrives October 26, while PS5 Pro improvements are also on the way.
Andrej is back with another developer video, featuring gunfights, kidnapped colleagues and enough cowboy nonsense to suggest Starbreeze has relocated to Texas. Fortunately, between the office theatrics, there's quite a lot worth talking about.
Before robbing Gold & Sharke backwards, perhaps learn how to rob it forwards. Our complete Gold & Sharke walkthrough covers the original stealth and loud routes, vault security and escape. Because understanding the building is useful before introducing it to explosives.
Gold & Sharke gets robbed from the wrong direction
Gold & Sharke is receiving a nighttime makeover, although calling it a makeover seems unfair to whoever spent hours rebuilding its objectives. The new Side Hustle variant is loud-only, begins on the roof and sends players fighting down towards the vault. Instead of entering through the bank and eventually escaping upwards, you're now breaking in from above.
The vault breach has changed too. You'll drill away the vault door's handle, expose a weak point and plant explosives to blow it open. Additional equipment is stashed throughout the building, while the escape takes you through an elevator shaft and into the sewers. Changing the direction of travel also changes how players approach familiar spaces, encounter resistance and complete objectives. Whether it remains enjoyable across repeated robberies is another question, but this looks considerably more substantial than simply switching off the lights.
Houston Breakout now involves stealing the judge
The first Heist Challenge arrives with Houston Breakout, and the objective is beautifully straightforward: escape with the judge as a hostage. Apparently, rescuing Houston wasn't ambitious enough. Now we're kidnapping the judiciary as well.
Imagine explaining this to the getaway driver. You're supposed to rescue your friend from the courthouse, but somewhere along the way somebody decides the judge would make a lovely souvenir. A perfectly organised rescue operation becomes a kidnapping because apparently leaving government officials in their designated buildings is for amateurs.
Starbreeze describes this as the first of multiple Heist Challenges, introducing additional objectives beyond completing robberies normally. The exact rewards and restrictions haven't been confirmed in the presentation.

October brings the guns. November lets you voluntarily make getting shot even worse, apparently for more money. Explore PAYDAY 3's full 2026 roadmap, including Risks, reusable Favors and December's next heist.
Guns Blazin' brings the Wild West to organised crime
The Guns Blazin' Crimebond launches October 26, featuring Western-inspired outfits, weapons and perks. The main attractions are the customisable Dual Outlaw revolvers and Dual Grimshot shotguns. The latter are lever-action weapons wielded simultaneously, which seems unnecessarily excessive until you remember which franchise we're discussing.
One new shotgun perk increases the damage of your next shot based on how many pellets connect. That encourages accurate shooting rather than spraying ammunition around the bank until the police surrender out of financial concern for the ammunition budget.
There's also the Tomahawk, a slower but harder-hitting alternative to throwing knives. Judge's Hammer can ricochet critical hits into another target, accompanied by a classic Western ping, while the Spearfish Lawman improves subsequent lever-action operation after critical hits.
Western-themed cosmetics include the Desert Duster and Bounty Hunter outfits. Because apparently shooting up a bank dressed as a nineteenth-century outlaw is preferable to doing it dressed as someone who has just finished their shift in accounting.
Mandatory Nebula registration is finally going away
One of the most welcome announcements has absolutely nothing to do with shooting people. Starbreeze is removing mandatory Nebula registration through a system called headless, which automatically creates a generic account when players enter the game. Registering for Nebula becomes optional.
For a game about criminals who routinely ignore several hundred laws before breakfast, being forced to complete account registration has always been a peculiar introduction. This removes that initial barrier, although it doesn't confirm fully offline play or the removal of all online authentication requirements.
PS5 Pro improvements and November's Risks
PlayStation 5 Pro players are getting improvements intended to combine Quality Mode's resolution target with Performance Mode's 60 Hz target. Optional PSSR upscaling is also planned for improved image clarity and temporal stability, although actual performance remains unverified.
Looking beyond October, Starbreeze discussed Risks, a November feature allowing additional challenges to be stacked together. The developers want it to occupy a similar place to PAYDAY 2's One Down difficulty, giving experienced heisters increasingly unpleasant conditions to overcome.
