PAYDAY 3 Skills 2.0: Crime College Just Got a Dean With a Shotgun

TL;DR 51 points to spend, tiers unlock at 2/5/8 skills per category, and the perks read like a shopping list written by a caffeinated war criminal. Devs say it’s “near-final,” which is English for “we’ll nerf your fun later.”

What actually dropped (besides SWAT morale)
Starbreeze showed the (almost) release version of the new skill system. Same six career paths, but tier gates now care how many skills you equip inside a category, not your horoscope. Mix and match sub-trees to climb - soldier’s Juggernaut, Commando, Grenadier all count toward Soldier tiers. Player level at patch time converts straight into 51 skill points. Efficient. Vulgar. Delicious.
How the ladder works (don’t look down)
Tier 2 after 2 equipped skills
Tier 3 after 5
Tier 4 after 8
It’s category-wide, so you can be a sensible hybrid or a reckless goblin. We endorse the latter.
The Perks That Made Us Spit Our Coffee
Soldier – “If it moves, suppress it; if it doesn’t, explode it.”
Bastion (Juggernaut T4): Shake off Zapper/Cloaker stuns; aced you shrug at Dozer slap-fights and Nader fart clouds. You’re a tank in a tracksuit.
Ammo Funnel (Commando T4): Kill armored enemies with AR/LMG and hoover their ammo straight into the mag when aced. Dyson for bullets.
Mad Bomber (Grenadier T4): Grenades refund grenades and split into mini-grenades. Finally, a family tree that’s just “boom.”
Ninja – “Parkour, but criminal.”
On the Run (Ghost T4): Sprint/slide = big dodge; aced lets you shoot & reload SMGs while sprinting. Tony Hawk’s Pro Felony.
SMGenius (Special Ops T4): Stack SMG damage off empty-mag reloads; aced stacks higher and refreshes on armor breaks. Sweatbands sold separately.
Escape Artist (Fog Machine T4): Go down, auto-drop smoke, gain fixed 100% dodge for 6s. Aced headshots in smoke go full cartoon nonsense. Subtle as a disco in a monastery.
Mechanic – “DIY: Do It Yourself, Disassemble It Yourself.”
Machine War (Engineer T4): Sentry kills ramp damage; aced spreads the buff across your turret flock. You are now Bezos of Bullets.
Berserker (Shotgunner T4): Damage reduction while reloading; aced you reload & fire while sprinting. Leg day meets lead day.
Highly Conductive (Electrician T4): Shock pulses strip armor; aced kills chain-zap the room. Environmentally friendly, morally catastrophic.
Hacker – “Ctrl-Alt-Delete the police.”
Electrical Interference (Black Hat T4): ECM on = shot enemies auto-stun; aced recycles ECMs via Zapper batteries. Green cybercrime.
Bounty Hunter (Hitman T4): Handgun kills on marked specials drop bounties: tools, throwables, heals, armor, even restore a down on Dozers. Aced doubles payouts. Cashback for carnage.
Sunburn (Flashpoint T4): Flashbanged enemies take escalating damage; aced halves their armor. Sunscreen won’t help, darling.
Conman – “Smile, commit atrocity, walk away whistling.”
Seeing Red (Imposter T4): Adrenaline becomes damage scaling; aced becomes angrier damage scaling. The cardio build your doctor warned about.
Health Guru (Pill Pusher T4): Med bags heal to full; aced bag AOE full-heals and revives on drop. Socialized medicine, privatized violence.
Hidden Blade (Cutthroat T4): Quick-melee spends a knife to insta-kill (no Dozers); aced still insta-kills without knives on cooldown. Budget assassination.
Professional – “Leadership, but with hostages.”
Insurance Plan (Puppet Master T4): Team damage reduction per tied hostage; aced doubles the rate, higher cap. Human resources, literally.
Ricochet (Longshot T4): Sniper headshots splash damage; aced splash does full damage. You’ve invented headshot Wi-Fi.
Premium Bag (Ammo Specialist T4): Ammo Bag hands out throwables and short AP/damage juice when aced. Party favors for felons.
Early Meta Hot Takes (subject to immediate community outrage)
Smoke + Flash Comps: Fog Machine + Flashpoint = dodge spikes, armor confetti, and SWAT waddling like penguins in a strobe light.
Handgun Mains Eat: Hitman’s bounty economy makes “kill the special” feel like cracking a piñata full of performance enhancers.
Turret Towns: Engineer + Ammo Specialist sets up a portable munitions festival. Bring earplugs and a lawyer.
Three Quick Build Templates (Steal, tweak, brag)
Sprint & Shred (Ninja/Soldier): Ghost On the Run, Special Ops SMGenius, Soldier Ammo Funnel. You’re a lawnmower with legs.
Hostage HMO (Professional/Conman): Puppet Master Insurance Plan, Pill Pusher Health Guru, sprinkle Flashpoint Spotlight. Unkillable and insufferable.
Skynet Jr. (Mechanic/Hacker): Engineer Machine War, Electrician Highly Conductive, Black Hat Electrical Interference. If it blinks, hack it; if it beeps, mount it; if it screams, farm it.
Final Verdict
This isn’t a respec; it’s a curriculum. Grind your 51 points, hit the 2/5/8 gates, and major in Smoke Science, Hostage Economics, or Ballistics With Feelings. Fill out the dev form, pretend to be helpful, and then claim responsibility when they nerf your mate’s ludicrous SMG stack. That’s teamwork.
