Rick and Morty Season 8 Blasts Off With Summer in Charge — Buckle Up

The Episode is Called “Summer of All Fears” — Which is Also What I Call High School
Season 8 opened with a bang, and by “bang,” I mean Summer Smith has taken over the show.Yes, Summer. The teenager. With emotions. And hormones. And a flamethrower.
In this episode, she tries to reinvent herself at school — which goes exactly as well as trying to land a helicopter on a bouncy castle. The result? A violent, interdimensional meltdown that features teenage angst, laser fights, and probably a dead dolphin.
Summer is the Star — Because Why the Hell Not
You might be asking:
“Where’s Rick?”“Where’s Morty?”“Why is Summer drop-kicking a space principal?”
And the answer is: Because it’s Rick and Morty, and logic left the building six seasons ago.
Spencer Grammer is back voicing Summer with the energy of someone who just drank twelve Red Bulls and fought a mall Santa. She’s amazing.
The Plot? Surprisingly Existential
Despite all the alien gunfights, exploding lockers, and hormonal screaming, this episode has depth.Summer’s trying to figure out who she is.And if that means vaporizing an entire school assembly to feel empowered?Well… that’s called character growth, apparently.
Dan Harmon Promised Less Lore, More Mayhem — Nailed It
The creators said they wanted Season 8 to focus more on characters and less on complicated timelines. So naturally, they opened with a story that ends in an emotional crisis and a mech battle in space. Because who needs consistency when you have laser arms?
Final Verdict
Summer of All Fears is:
Loud
Chaotic
Emotionally unstable
Explosive
Basically, it’s everything I look for in a TV show, a sports car, and a first date.
If this is what the rest of Season 8 is like, we’re in for an absolute brain-melting treat.
