Cyberpunk 2077 Console Mods Are Here, but Your Trophy Save Needs Protection

Cyberpunk 2077 now supports player-created mods on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S through mod.io. Nintendo Switch 2 is also officially supported, but Update 2.5 has not arrived there yet as of October 23. PS4 and Xbox One are out. On consoles, any save created while mods are enabled is marked as modded and cannot earn trophies or achievements. The important thing to understand before turning Night City into somebody’s 900 MB fever dream is that console modding is not simply PC modding with the keyboard confiscated. It is curated, restricted and tied rather firmly to your save file.

Update 2.5 did considerably more than open the mod cupboard. See what else Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 added, including dual-wielding, Glamdocs and new quests. Night City has finally discovered that one handgun per person was showing dangerous levels of restraint.

Which consoles support Cyberpunk 2077 mods?

Update 2.5 brings cross-platform mod support to PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 belongs to the same system, but CD Projekt Red says Update 2.5 is still coming to Switch 2, so the feature is not live there yet. PS4 and Xbox One do not support it because CDPR stopped bringing new content updates to the previous-generation versions after Patch 1.6.

Console mods are delivered through mod.io. A mod existing on Nexus Mods or elsewhere on PC does not automatically mean PlayStation or Xbox can use it. Console players need versions approved for cross-platform support and marked Available on consoles. Some resource types remain PC-only, so perfectly functional PC mods may be impossible to offer on console in their existing form. Console modding is basically Night City after somebody finally hired a building inspector.

How to install Cyberpunk 2077 mods on PS5 and Xbox

Installation is refreshingly painless. Open Mods from the main menu, sign into your CD Projekt Red account, link it with mod.io, find a console-compatible mod and select Subscribe. Restart Cyberpunk 2077, open Installed and make sure the mod is enabled. Once the required mods are installed, you can continue using them offline, although downloading anything new still requires an internet connection.

CDPR does not state a fixed number of mods you can install on PS5 or Xbox, but individual mods face technical limits. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, an uncompressed mod folder cannot exceed 900 MB. So no, the entire PC modding ecosystem has not been lowered onto PlayStation and Xbox by crane. Console players get a curated slice of it.

What happens to saves, trophies and cross-progression?

Any save created while mods are enabled becomes a modded save, identified by a small mod.io cog icon in the Load Game menu. On console, trophies and achievements cannot be earned from that save. If you care about either, make a clean manual save before enabling mods and keep it separate. CDPR does not currently say that disabling every mod converts an already modded save back into a clean one, so treating that as guaranteed would be a magnificent way to discover regret at 2 a.m.

There is another reason to keep an untouched save. CDPR warns that mods can cause crashes, quest-progression problems and interface issues, and some effects can remain stored in save data even after the offending mod is disabled. Mods that alter quest structure are especially risky halfway through a playthrough. Removing the mod does not necessarily remove everything it did. Night City has now achieved the authentic software experience of hiring a contractor, firing the contractor and discovering six months later that he rewired the bathroom through the toaster.

Modded saves can still use cross-progression, but the destination platform needs the same required mods enabled for everything to work properly. If a PC save relies on a mod that never received console approval, transferring it to PS5 or Xbox can cause problems or prevent it from loading correctly. Mod subscriptions sync through your CD Projekt Red account, while incompatible mods are ignored on platforms that cannot use them. Your V can cross the border. Their collection of aftermarket organs needs the correct paperwork.

For console players, the safest arrangement is wonderfully boring: keep one clean save, experiment on a separate branch, and treat the little cog icon as Cyberpunk politely informing you that this particular timeline has left the warranty department.

FAQ

Can you use mods on Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and Xbox?

Yes. Update 2.5 adds mod.io support on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 support is also confirmed but is not live yet.

Do Cyberpunk 2077 console mods disable trophies and achievements?

Yes. Any save created while mods are enabled is marked as modded and cannot earn trophies or achievements on console.

Can I remove the mods and make the save clean again?

CD Projekt Red has not confirmed that disabling mods removes the modded-save status. Keep a separate clean save if trophies or achievements matter to you.

Can every PC mod be used on console?

No. Console mods must be approved for cross-platform use through mod.io, and some PC-only file types are not supported.

Can modded saves use cross-progression?

Yes, but the destination platform needs the required compatible mods. Missing or unsupported mods can cause the save to load incorrectly or not load at all.

About the Editor

I'm Niels Gys, founder and editor of CRIMENET GAZETTE. I write about crime, heist, villain, and horror games because somebody has to separate genuine criminal masterpieces from games that couldn't organize a successful mugging.

Outside the website, I'm the frontman of JETBLACK SMILE, a Belgian rock 'n' roll band that sounds like bad decisions played through loud guitars. Turns out writing about chaos, criminals, and morally questionable life choices isn't all that different from writing songs.

I started CRIMENET because too much gaming coverage feels afraid to have an opinion. Reviews become press releases, every game is "solid," and somehow everyone leaves happy except the reader.

Not here.

CRIMENET covers crime, heist, villain and horror games, with GTA Online as one of our main ongoing beats. Not the heroic kind. The kind where you rob banks, build empires, betray your crew, or become the monster everyone else is trying to survive.

I don't do review scores. The internet already has enough people arguing whether a game deserves a 72 instead of a 71, like they're negotiating a hostage release over a single percentage point. I'd rather tell you what the game actually feels like to play and whether it's worth your time.

Every article is built on research, evidence, and an unhealthy intolerance for mediocre game design.

Strong opinions are welcome. Invented facts are not.

Think less "trusted reviewer."

More "your inside man in the digital underworld."
