GTA Online Halloween Survival Challenge Not Counting? Apparently, Surviving Isn't Enough

Completed all ten waves of a GTA Online Survival but your Halloween Weekly Challenge still isn't counting? You're not alone. Players are reporting successful runs that fail to register, and some have received credit after trying again without dying. However, Rockstar hasn't confirmed a deathless requirement for October 22-28, and other players have received credit despite dying.

So before you spend another evening fighting an army of armed lunatics for a reward that apparently requires divine intervention, here's what we know.

What Rockstar actually requires

According to Rockstar's official Halloween announcement, this week's challenge requires players to complete all waves of a Survival between October 22 and October 28.

Successfully completing it earns:

  • GTA$150,000

  • Gray Space Interloper Outfit

  • Progress towards the additional GTA$2 million bonus for completing all five Halloween Weekly Challenges.

Notice what's missing? Absolutely nothing about staying alive.

In fact, Rockstar specifically reserves that requirement for the following week, October 29 to November 4, when the challenge changes to completing ten Survival waves without dying.

That's a rather important distinction. Rockstar has written two separate objectives, deliberately adding a deathless condition to the second one. If that condition secretly applies to both, somebody has managed to make a straightforward instruction about as useful as a chocolate fire extinguisher.

For now, the official requirement is clear. Complete the Survival. You don't have to personally emerge from every wave looking ready for a medical examination.

Players are completing Survivals without receiving credit

And we're not necessarily talking about somebody reaching Wave 10, getting flattened by the final enemy and wondering where their money went. Rockstar requires the Survival to be completed, not merely reached.

In a Reddit discussion about the Weekly Challenge not counting, one player reported clearing ten rounds of Ludendorff Cemetery Survival, reaching the bonus round and discovering that the challenge hadn't registered.

They eventually received credit after another successful attempt.

Another player described a failed attempt involving a death, followed by a successful run in which they remained alive.

Naturally, this raised suspicions that Rockstar had forgotten to mention a deathless condition.

Which would be quite something. Imagine completing your shift, receiving congratulations, and then being informed that your salary has been withheld because you briefly died during the afternoon.

Unfortunately for that theory, there's contradictory evidence.

In a separate October 23 discussion, players reported receiving credit despite dying, provided their teammates survived and completed the activity.

So dying clearly isn't preventing completion for everyone.

Apparently, even dying doesn't excuse you from attending work. Find out why GTA Online kicks dead Survival players for inactivity, and what might keep you connected while spectating.

Does completing all ten waves without dying fix it?

Possibly, but it's an unconfirmed workaround rather than a proven fix.

Some reports suggest retrying without dying helped players obtain their missing challenge credit. What they don't establish is why it worked.

Perhaps death interferes with tracking under certain circumstances. Perhaps repeating the Survival is enough. Perhaps the first completion simply failed to register for an entirely unrelated reason.

We don't know.

Still, if you've already completed ten waves and received absolutely nothing, attempting a deathless run is a reasonable precaution. You're already being forced to repeat the entire activity, so you might as well eliminate one suspected complication.

Just don't mistake that precaution for a requirement Rockstar has actually published.

What to try if your Halloween Survival Challenge won't count

  1. Make sure you completed the Survival. Reaching Wave 10 isn't enough if your team fails before clearing it.

  2. Check your Weekly Challenge tracker. Confirm the objective remains incomplete rather than relying entirely on reward notifications.

  3. Try another full Survival. Some players received credit on subsequent successful attempts.

  4. Consider completing your retry without dying. It may help, but it's neither mandatory nor guaranteed.

  5. Remain through the completion and results sequence. Avoid leaving prematurely while checking whether your result registers.

  6. Contact Rockstar Support if repeated successful completions still don't count. Keep screenshots of your results and incomplete challenge tracker.

There's no confirmed explanation for the registration failures, and Rockstar hasn't announced a specific fix.

Unfortunately, the deadline makes this more than a mildly irritating missing GTA$150,000. Players pursuing the cumulative GTA$2 million Halloween reward need all five Weekly Challenges completed. One stubborn checkbox could become a particularly expensive little bastard.

FAQ: GTA Online Halloween Survival Weekly Challenge

Why isn't my GTA Online Survival Weekly Challenge counting?

Some players report completing all ten Survival waves without receiving challenge credit. The exact cause remains unknown, and Rockstar hasn't confirmed a specific fix.

Do I need to complete all ten waves without dying?

No. Rockstar's October 22-28 challenge only requires completing all Survival waves. The deathless requirement belongs to the October 29-November 4 challenge.

How can I fix the Halloween Survival Challenge not counting?

Try completing another Survival and check your Weekly Challenge tracker afterward. Some players received credit after retrying without dying, but this workaround isn't guaranteed.

Does dying while my teammates finish the Survival still count?

It can. Players have reported receiving credit despite dying, provided their team successfully completed the Survival.

Will a failed Weekly Challenge affect the GTA$2 million Halloween bonus?

Yes. You must complete all five Halloween Weekly Challenges to qualify for the additional GTA$2 million. If this week's challenge doesn't register before October 28, your eligibility could be affected.

I'm Niels Gys, founder and editor of CRIMENET GAZETTE. I write about crime, heist, villain, and horror games because somebody has to separate genuine criminal masterpieces from games that couldn't organize a successful mugging.

Outside the website, I'm the frontman of JETBLACK SMILE, a Belgian rock 'n' roll band that sounds like bad decisions played through loud guitars. Turns out writing about chaos, criminals, and morally questionable life choices isn't all that different from writing songs.

I started CRIMENET because too much gaming coverage feels afraid to have an opinion. Reviews become press releases, every game is "solid," and somehow everyone leaves happy except the reader.

Not here.

CRIMENET covers crime, heist, villain and horror games, with GTA Online as one of our main ongoing beats. Not the heroic kind. The kind where you rob banks, build empires, betray your crew, or become the monster everyone else is trying to survive.

I don't do review scores. The internet already has enough people arguing whether a game deserves a 72 instead of a 71, like they're negotiating a hostage release over a single percentage point. I'd rather tell you what the game actually feels like to play and whether it's worth your time.

Every article is built on research, evidence, and an unhealthy intolerance for mediocre game design.

Strong opinions are welcome. Invented facts are not.
