Dead by Daylight Judgment Bug: Divine Light Is Having a Fucking Breakdown

Yes, The Judgment’s Divine Light is bugged. Behaviour is currently tracking several problems with the power, including jittering, stuttering, getting stuck while aiming and specific issues involving the Prayer Kneeler add-on.

There is no confirmed universal fix yet.

If you’re using Prayer Kneeler, I’d take it off for now. Behaviour has an official high-priority report linking it to Divine Light stopping and stuttering. Earlier testing involved Prayer Kneeler together with Heretic’s Mark, but later testing on version 10.1.2 found Prayer Kneeler could apparently cause the problem on its own.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean Prayer Kneeler is the problem. It just means it has managed to get itself formally named in the police report.

Behaviour is separately tracking broader “Divine Light Jitteriness and Stuttering Post-Hotfix”, so removing the add-on may help with one specific trigger without fixing whatever else is going on underneath.

The Judgment towers above a kneeling Survivor beneath a blazing column of Divine Light, surrounded by enormous teal wings, celestial rings and apocalyptic golden clouds in Dead by Daylight.

If you enjoy playing the thing everybody else is desperately trying to survive, Halloween: The Game’s 1.0.3 update is another useful stop. Michael got stronger, Survivors got less comfortable, and apparently balance is now being administered with a kitchen knife.

Divine Light really is behaving strangely

Divine Light is The Judgment’s main active power. You summon it, control its initial trajectory and fire it through the environment at Survivors. Zealous changes how much control you have over the beam’s curve.

So when people say the stuttering makes The Judgment harder to control, this isn’t somebody complaining that a cape animation looks a bit weird.

The control is the mechanic.

Behaviour’s own tracker currently has several separate Divine Light problems. One high-priority report covers the Prayer Kneeler and Heretic’s Mark interaction causing the beam to stop and stutter. Later testing found the problem happening with Prayer Kneeler alone.

Another high-priority report describes Divine Light becoming stuck while aiming, potentially wasting the power or making accurate placement impossible. That one was reported without behaviour-changing add-ons.

Then there’s the broader post-hotfix jitter report.

At that point I think we can safely stop asking whether everybody on Reddit simultaneously forgot how to move a mouse.

Something is wrong with Divine Light.

The annoying part is that we don’t yet know whether all of these problems come from the same underlying bug. Behaviour is tracking several symptoms, but that doesn’t automatically make them one enormous celestial plumbing disaster.

The Judgment is only one member of gaming’s increasingly crowded department of playable nightmares. Head into CRIMENET’s Playable Villains hub and find more games willing to hand you the monster instead of the flashlight.

Can you fix Divine Light stuttering?

Right now, there is no verified universal fix.

The one thing actually supported by Behaviour’s bug reports is avoiding Prayer Kneeler.

If you’re using Prayer Kneeler together with Heretic’s Mark, I’d remove that combination first. If the beam is still jittering afterwards, you may simply be running into the broader problem Behaviour is also investigating. And that’s where the useful advice currently stops.

There’s no solid evidence that lowering graphics settings fixes it. No verified reinstall ritual. No sacred sequence involving restarting Steam, sacrificing three bloodpoints and turning your mouse clockwise while chanting the patch notes.

Prayer Kneeler is the only obvious thing you can currently remove because Behaviour has specifically connected it to one version of the problem.

That’s not a fix. It’s more like discovering one particular floorboard has nails sticking out of it while the rest of the house continues making electrical noises.

One other caveat: the strongest official bug reports here are Steam reports. That doesn’t prove every platform is affected in exactly the same way or to the same extent.

The September 17 Judgment changes didn’t fix this

This is where things get slightly ridiculous.

Behaviour changed Divine Light several times after The Judgment launched on August 25. Update 10.1.1 adjusted the Zealous curve window. Update 10.1.2 changed it again and added a non-Zealous curve window.

Then on September 17, Behaviour reverted some of those changes because The Judgment’s performance had, in their words, “skyrocketed.”

Fair enough. Killer too strong, fiddle with numbers, everybody goes home.

Except players immediately wanted to know whether the bloody beam had also stopped jittering.

It hadn’t.

Those September 17 changes were balance adjustments. They weren’t announced as a fix for the stuttering, and players continued reporting the issue afterwards.

So we briefly reached the wonderful situation where Behaviour was trying to stop The Judgment from being too effective while some Judgment players were trying to convince Divine Light to travel forward without moving like somebody was dragging the server rack down a staircase.

Balancing a weapon is difficult enough when the weapon agrees to participate.

What should Judgment players do now?

For the moment, the sensible approach is pretty simple:

  • Avoid Prayer Kneeler if Divine Light is stuttering.

  • Definitely remove the Prayer Kneeler + Heretic’s Mark combination if you’re using both.

  • Don’t immediately assume your aim or hardware is responsible.

  • There is currently no confirmed universal workaround for the wider jitter.

  • Keep an eye on Behaviour’s patch notes for Divine Light stuttering, aiming problems or fixes to the affected add-ons.

And that last part matters because this isn’t based solely on a Reddit thread where twelve people have reached a unanimous verdict after four minutes and somebody has already demanded compensation.

Behaviour itself has multiple related Divine Light issues in its tracker, several marked high priority.

The Judgment is supposed to bend Divine Light around walls.

Right now the greater challenge appears to be convincing Divine Light to observe the ancient theological principle of going where you fucking aimed it.

FAQ

Is The Judgment’s Divine Light actually bugged?

Yes. Behaviour’s official bug tracker currently includes multiple Divine Light issues, including stuttering, jitteriness and the power becoming stuck while aiming.

Is Prayer Kneeler causing the stuttering?

It can be. Behaviour has a high-priority report linking Prayer Kneeler to Divine Light stopping and stuttering, including cases where the add-on caused problems without Heretic’s Mark.

Can I fix Divine Light stuttering?

There is no confirmed universal fix yet. Removing Prayer Kneeler is the best current workaround supported by Behaviour’s own bug reports, but broader jitteriness can still happen.

Did the September 17 Judgment changes fix Divine Light?

No. Those changes adjusted The Judgment’s balance and did not include a confirmed fix for the beam-stuttering problem.

Is Behaviour working on a fix?

The issue is actively tracked, with several related Divine Light reports marked high priority, but Behaviour has not confirmed when a full fix will arrive.

I'm Niels Gys, founder and editor of CRIMENET GAZETTE. I write about crime, heist, villain, and horror games because somebody has to separate genuine criminal masterpieces from games that couldn't organize a successful mugging.

Outside the website, I'm the frontman of JETBLACK SMILE, a Belgian rock 'n' roll band that sounds like bad decisions played through loud guitars. Turns out writing about chaos, criminals, and morally questionable life choices isn't all that different from writing songs.

I started CRIMENET because too much gaming coverage feels afraid to have an opinion. Reviews become press releases, every game is "solid," and somehow everyone leaves happy except the reader.

Not here.

CRIMENET covers crime, heist, villain and horror games, with GTA Online as one of our main ongoing beats. Not the heroic kind. The kind where you rob banks, build empires, betray your crew, or become the monster everyone else is trying to survive.

I don't do review scores. The internet already has enough people arguing whether a game deserves a 72 instead of a 71, like they're negotiating a hostage release over a single percentage point. I'd rather tell you what the game actually feels like to play and whether it's worth your time.

Every article is built on research, evidence, and an unhealthy intolerance for mediocre game design.

Strong opinions are welcome. Invented facts are not.
