Graveyard Keeper 2 Nun Bug: The Choir Has Chosen Violence

If The Nun Also Reads refuses to progress, check one thing first: is there actually a zombie assigned to the Choir?
If yes, and you built the Choir before Agatha's quest told you to, you may have hit the actual progression softlock players have been reporting.
Update 1.005 seems to have fixed it for some people, but not everybody. The official patch notes don't mention the quest specifically either, so I wouldn't declare the body buried just yet.
Especially not in Graveyard Keeper.

If Agatha has finished ruining your afternoon, there is more Graveyard Keeper 2 machinery waiting to ruin it efficiently. See how zombie automation actually works before you accidentally turn the undead into middle management.
The problem seems to be building the Choir too early
Normally the quest is simple enough.
Agatha asks you to build a Choir. You build the Choir. You tell Agatha you've built the Choir. Then you hold the ceremony and move on with your life, presumably towards some other deeply questionable use of human remains.
The problem starts when you've already built the Choir before the quest reaches that stage.
Multiple players describe basically the same thing: Choir already sitting there, zombies assigned, ceremonies performed, quest does absolutely nothing.
Which means the game can apparently keep track of corpses, zombies, body parts, production chains and the entire administration of a medieval town, but asking it to notice that a wooden platform already exists is where the machinery begins coughing smoke.
You haven't failed to build the Choir.
You've built it too efficiently.
Never show initiative at work.
If you haven't built it yet, don't
This is the easiest part.
If The Nun Also Reads hasn't specifically asked you to construct the Choir yet, leave it alone.
Even if you have the materials.
Even if you've got twenty minutes spare.
Even if that empty space in the church is irritating you every time you walk past it.
Wait until Agatha actually gives you the objective, then build it.
It's a slightly absurd precaution because games normally reward preparation. Graveyard Keeper 2 may currently punish you for being the sort of person who sees an obvious future job and thinks, "I'll get that done now."
Apparently the Grand Inquisitor still answers to middle management.
But first, make sure this isn't just the zombie problem
There's another reason the Choir can appear broken, and this one doesn't seem to be a bug.
You need a zombie singer assigned to the Choir.
So before assuming your save has wandered into the swamp:
assign at least one zombie to the Choir;
speak to Agatha again;
perform the required ceremony;
check whether the objective updates.
That's important because both situations look very similar from the player's side.
The first is basically: you forgot to staff the Choir.
The second is: the game has looked directly at the Choir you built and decided there is insufficient evidence that a Choir exists.
Slightly different troubleshooting procedure.

Repeating ceremonies doesn't seem to magically fix it
If you've already got zombies assigned and you've performed the ceremony, repeatedly doing the same thing doesn't appear to reliably knock the quest back into life.
Players caught by the apparent pre-built-Choir bug have reported doing the obvious stuff already.
More zombies.
More ceremonies.
More conversations.
More religious activity than most people manage in December.
Still stuck.
So if everything is correctly set up and Agatha continues staring through you like you've just asked her to approve expenses from last quarter, check whether you're running the latest version of the game.
Did Update 1.005 fix The Nun Also Reads?
Maybe.
That's the irritatingly accurate answer.
Update 1.005 landed shortly after release with a pile of fixes, but The Nun Also Reads and the Choir softlock aren't specifically mentioned in the official changelog.
However, some players who were stuck before the update have since reported that they could continue. In at least one case, assigning zombies to the Choir and speaking to Agatha again was enough to get things moving.
Excellent.
Case closed.
Except other players are still reporting that they're stuck.
Of course they are.
So right now I wouldn't tell anyone that 1.005 definitely fixes the quest. What I would do is update the game before trying anything more drastic, then go through the normal Choir steps again.
If it works, wonderful.
If it doesn't, you're probably dealing with the actual softlock rather than forgetting to employ the undead tenor section.
There is a community workaround, but I'd treat it carefully
Players have also mentioned using a community mod to force the quest into its next stage.
That exists.
I'm not comfortable calling it the fix yet.
It's unofficial, we don't have enough confirmation about how it behaves with 1.005, and manually advancing quest states is one of those things that can go perfectly well until eight hours later when Sister Mildred starts demanding a ceremonial goat you technically never unlocked.
So if you're completely stuck, the workaround may be worth investigating.
But back up your save first.
That's not paranoia. That's simply respecting the ancient PC gaming tradition of assuming that any button labelled "force quest stage" has a loaded revolver under the desk.

CRIMENET just saved you from repeatedly holding church ceremonies at a broken quest until religion itself filed for overtime. If that was worth something to you, you can throw a coin in the Ko-fi jar.
So what should you actually do?
As of September 25, 2026:
If you haven't built the Choir yet, wait until The Nun Also Reads tells you to.
If you're already on the quest and it won't progress, make sure a zombie singer is assigned, speak to Agatha and perform the ceremony.
If you're still stuck, update to the latest version and try those steps again.
And if you built the Choir before Agatha ever asked for it and none of that works, there's a good chance you've hit the genuine progression bug players have been reporting.
Update 1.005 appears to have rescued some saves.
Whether it has fixed the problem completely is still unclear.
Which leaves us with the very Graveyard Keeper situation of waiting to find out whether something is actually dead, temporarily dead, or just standing around refusing to work.
