PAYDAY 2 Just Got a New Heist in 2026, Because Apparently This Game Cannot Die
PAYDAY 2 has received a brand-new heist in 2026. Under The Hammer is new playable content for the thirteen-year-old co-op crime game, giving the PAYDAY Gang another criminal job long after most games its age have been buried, remastered twice and turned into a YouTube video titled “Remember THIS?”
Yes. PAYDAY 2.
The one released in 2013.
At this point, calling PAYDAY 2 an old game feels medically inaccurate. Old things eventually stop doing things. PAYDAY 2 apparently spends its retirement breaking into buildings.

Under The Hammer is an actual new PAYDAY 2 heist
The important bit is wonderfully simple: Under The Hammer is new playable heist content, released through PAYDAY 2 on PC.
That makes this considerably more interesting than another anniversary cosmetic, weapon trinket or patch correcting an issue where Dallas's left eyebrow became hostile when viewed from Sweden.
This is another job.
PAYDAY 2's entire existence revolves around taking criminal contracts, completing objectives, grabbing valuable things that very specifically belong to somebody else and escaping before the police solve the problem by sending progressively larger men through the front door.
Under The Hammer adds another playground for exactly that.
And frankly, the strangest part is the year printed at the top of the calendar.
PAYDAY 2 has become gaming's suspicious immortal
Thirteen years is a ridiculous lifespan for a multiplayer game.
For perspective, somebody could have bought PAYDAY 2 at launch, finished school, gone to university, started a career, developed lower-back pain from an office chair and still received a new heist before dinner.
Most multiplayer games eventually reach the stage where the official social account posts a heartfelt JPEG thanking the community for “an incredible journey.”
PAYDAY 2 appears to have eaten the JPEG.
There is something particularly appropriate about this happening while PAYDAY 3 exists. The franchise hasn't simply locked the old getaway van in a garage and moved everyone into the newer model.
PAYDAY 2 remains part of the active PAYDAY ecosystem, and now there is fresh criminal work waiting inside it.
For CRIMENET readers, that's the interesting bit. This isn't archaeology. There is actually something new to rob.
What we don't know about Under The Hammer yet
Because the heist has only just arrived, we're not going to perform the traditional gaming-website miracle where several hours of community experimentation mysteriously happen fifteen minutes after publication.
The deeper questions still need proper answers.
Exactly how the objectives work, what changes between stealth and loud approaches, which elements are randomised, how difficulty changes the job, what optional loot exists, what the best routes are and which shortcuts the PAYDAY community discovers all require actual gameplay evidence.
Those are the details that turn “new heist exists” into something genuinely useful.
And PAYDAY players will find them.
Of course they will.
Somewhere right now, a person with 4,800 hours in PAYDAY 2 is staring at a guard patrol with the concentration of an air-traffic controller, trying to determine whether walking three metres to the left saves eleven seconds and one body bag. By tomorrow there will probably be a diagram.
That's when Under The Hammer becomes much more interesting to dissect.
