Cyberpunk 2077 Finally Gets Dual-Wielding, Because Night City Apparently Needed More Guns

Cyberpunk 2077 is finally getting dual-wielding. The free Edgerunners 2 Update 2.5 arrives October 22, introducing Double Trouble, a new perk in the Cool attribute tree that lets V wield two Power Pistols or Revolvers. Four supporting perks expand the playstyle, although Tech and Smart weapons aren't included.

After years of carrying enough cyberware to qualify as a suspiciously aggressive household appliance, V can finally hold a gun in each hand. Apparently, that was the technological breakthrough Night City had been struggling with.

There is a catch, though. You can't simply grab any two weapons from your inventory and go on a romantic evening of aggravated assault. CD Projekt Red has imposed some rather specific rules.

Double Trouble: Two Guns, One Cool Build

According to CD Projekt Red's official Update 2.5 notes, dual-wielding revolves around Double Trouble and four auxiliary perks in the Cool attribute tree.

Rather than handing every V a second gun for free, CD Projekt Red has made dual-wielding part of character progression. If you already favour handgun combat, there's now another reason to invest in Cool. If your build focuses elsewhere, you'll have to consider whether the investment is worthwhile.

The exact perk requirements and individual bonuses of those four supporting perks haven't been fully established in the published notes, so declaring an optimal build already would be rather ambitious.

Especially since we haven't even fired the bloody things yet.

Then there's the weapon restriction.

Double Trouble only supports Power Pistols and Power Revolvers. No Tech or Smart handguns, assault rifles, shotguns or melee weapons under the announced rules.

Which is probably sensible. Give V two revolvers and you've created a gunslinger. Give V two shotguns and the NCPD will be investigating why an entire apartment building has disappeared.

Players also shouldn't assume every Iconic handgun qualifies. Exact compatibility, including potential exceptions, still needs verification.

Will Dual-Wielding Actually Make V More Dangerous?

That's the interesting question. Carrying two guns certainly looks impressive, but whether it makes your build more effective depends on what the system actually allows.

Post-reveal reporting suggests players can combine two eligible weapons with different effects. If that works as described, you could potentially build around complementary handguns rather than carrying identical pistols purely for the spectacle.

Imagine pairing weapons that excel in different situations, keeping both immediately available instead of constantly swapping between them. There's genuine tactical potential there, depending on how their effects interact.

But two guns don't automatically mean twice the damage.

CD Projekt Red hasn't fully documented the firing behaviour, reload mechanics, accuracy implications or damage calculations in its written patch notes. Specific interactions with Sandevistan, Kerenzikov and other combat cyberware also remain unconfirmed.

And that's what will determine whether Double Trouble becomes a serious alternative to established handgun builds or merely a magnificent way of wasting ammunition with both hands.

For now, it's a promising new combat option, not an established replacement for existing builds.

Night City Is Also Getting Cosmetic Cyberware Surgery

Dual-wielding isn't the only addition in Update 2.5.

CD Projekt Red is introducing Glamdocs, five specialists who can customise the appearance and colours of V's arm and hand cyberware, including Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System.

These are cosmetic changes, not confirmed combat upgrades.

Night City has therefore developed an entire professional industry dedicated to making concealed murder equipment match your outfit. Somewhere, a qualified specialist is presumably explaining that the chrome finish on your Mantis Blades clashes terribly with your jacket.

Never mind the person you're planning to disassemble with them. Have some standards.

There's new playable content too. Clampdown, an Edgerunners 2 prequel quest, becomes available after completing The Heist and two Wakako gigs, followed by a message. Welcome to Paradise introduces another Night City mystery, requiring completion of The Heist and Street Cred 15.

The update also brings twelve new Minor Arcana tarot cards with an associated quest and reward, official mod.io integration on supported platforms, and a console field-of-view slider. Console achievements and trophies are disabled while playing from a modded save.

When Does Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Release?

Update 2.5 launches free on October 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and supported Mac versions distributed through Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store. Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store edition follow later.

You can find the additional changes in the official patch notes.

For returning players, Double Trouble is easily the most interesting combat addition, particularly if your V already specialises in handguns. Whether it's worth rebuilding your character around will depend on the perk bonuses, weapon combinations and actual combat performance once the update goes live.

Night City is about to have considerably more guns pointed at things. Whether that's a tactical revolution or simply an expensive way to miss twice remains to be seen.

I'm Niels Gys, founder and editor of CRIMENET GAZETTE. I write about crime, heist, villain, and horror games because somebody has to separate genuine criminal masterpieces from games that couldn't organize a successful mugging.

Outside the website, I'm the frontman of JETBLACK SMILE, a Belgian rock 'n' roll band that sounds like bad decisions played through loud guitars. Turns out writing about chaos, criminals, and morally questionable life choices isn't all that different from writing songs.

I started CRIMENET because too much gaming coverage feels afraid to have an opinion. Reviews become press releases, every game is "solid," and somehow everyone leaves happy except the reader.

Not here.

CRIMENET covers crime, heist, villain and horror games, with GTA Online as one of our main ongoing beats. Not the heroic kind. The kind where you rob banks, build empires, betray your crew, or become the monster everyone else is trying to survive.

I don't do review scores. The internet already has enough people arguing whether a game deserves a 72 instead of a 71, like they're negotiating a hostage release over a single percentage point. I'd rather tell you what the game actually feels like to play and whether it's worth your time.

Every article is built on research, evidence, and an unhealthy intolerance for mediocre game design.

Strong opinions are welcome. Invented facts are not.
